East Coast Saunas
Website & Digital
Foundation Report

A complete audit of eastcoastsaunas.com as it exists today — the platform it runs on, what it costs to keep running, why it currently ranks for nothing in search, what its backlink profile actually looks like, how its social presence performs, and where its lead generation funnel is losing people who were already interested enough to click.

This is a diagnosis and a plan for the website specifically. It intentionally stops at the point where a lead becomes a customer — the quoting, scheduling, contractor coordination, and fulfillment side of the business is a separate, deliberately holistic assessment we’ll build once we’ve had time to properly learn how East Coast Saunas actually runs day to day.

Executive Summary

One Platform Problem. One Search Problem. One Real Opportunity.

The site is built on Shopify, a platform designed for selling a catalog of products — and East Coast Saunas doesn’t sell a catalog. It designs and builds custom saunas, one project at a time. That mismatch shows up everywhere: locked templates, per-transaction fees, and a closed system that limits the kind of structured, search-friendly content the site actually needs. Layered on top of that, the site currently ranks for zero keywords in Google and has only five referring domains — most sites its age with any real content strategy have dozens.

None of that is unfixable, and none of it is expensive to fix. What the business already has going for it is genuinely strong: real, high-quality build footage from Nick Talio documenting actual installs, an active social presence with a real local following, and a lead magnet already built (custom sauna building plans) that’s currently switched off and leaving money on the table.

How This Report Is Organized

Three fronts, in order: Platform & Technology (what’s running, what it costs, and the migration plan off Shopify), Search & Authority (why the site ranks for nothing, what the backlink profile actually looks like, and how that changes), and Content, Social & Conversion (the lead magnet, the ad creative, and the specific page-level fixes that are currently costing real leads). A growth retainer menu closes it out, followed by a short section on what this report deliberately does not cover — and why that’s coming next.

Front One — Current Platform Inventory

You’re Paying for Platforms You Don’t Need.

Six tools are currently in the stack. Two are genuinely good choices worth keeping exactly as they are. One is a wrong fit that’s costing money every month it stays. The rest can be consolidated the moment the platform migration happens.

Shopify
Wrong fit — migrate off. Confirmed active: a Shopify checkout API token and CDN links are present in the live source. East Coast Saunas is a custom project and service business, not a catalog store. Shopify’s per-transaction fees, locked templates, and closed plugin ecosystem are overhead this business doesn’t need to carry.
Klaviyo
Good choice. Keep it. Best-in-class for the lead-nurture sequences and physical-mail triggers described later in this report.
Calendly
Replace with Google Calendar. Calendly charges $8–$16/mo for scheduling features that are free, natively, in Google Calendar. One less platform, zero added cost, and the booking data stays fully in-house.
Slack
Keep it. Works fine for internal team communication.
Cloudflare CDN
Retain. Already serving as Shopify’s CDN layer today. On the new platform it stays — and can also take over as the domain registrar, one dashboard instead of two.
Tucows (Registrar)
Migrate to Cloudflare Registrar. Cloudflare registers domains at cost, no markup, and folds DNS, CDN, and registration into the same dashboard already being used for the CDN.
Estimated Monthly Bleed — Current
Shopify (Basic+)$39–$105/mo
Shopify App Plugins$30–$150/mo
Calendly (Teams)$16/mo
Tucows Registrar~$2/mo
After Migration$100/mo
Why This Matters Beyond Cost

Shopify’s closed ecosystem means the data, design, and functionality of the site are at the mercy of third-party app developers and Shopify’s own pricing decisions. Once the site is open-source, East Coast Saunas owns everything on it — the code, the content, and the backups.

The Fix — From Shopify Dependency to Full Ownership

A 1-for-1 Rebuild. Full Control.

1-for-1 Rebuild
$100Per Month
Managed Hosting
“This isn’t a redesign — it’s a like-for-like move to a platform that actually fits the business. Every existing page comes across, rebuilt properly, with the front door finally open for full control instead of locked behind a template.”
Scope Note · Deeper form audits and customer-journey tracking available as an add-on once the new site is live
What Ownership Actually Gives You

Open-source, no vendor lock-in, direct access to the raw code, custom client portals when the time comes, and full backups the business actually owns rather than rents.

Migration Sequence
1
Transfer the Domain to Cloudflare Registrar
Move eastcoastsaunas.com from Tucows to Cloudflare. DNS, CDN, and registrar now live in one dashboard, at cost.
2
Provision Managed Hosting
A dedicated environment on premium managed hosting ($100/mo, the Up to 100 Pages tier — comfortably covers a custom-build site this size). SSL, caching, and daily backups handled — no sysadmin required.
3
1-for-1 Rebuild of Every Existing Page
Home, Long Island Custom Saunas, About, Site Prep Requirements, Contractor Network, Contact, Sauna Design, Shipping, and Returns — rebuilt pixel-for-pixel, with full code access and no Shopify dependency.
4
Replace Calendly with Google Calendar
Native appointment scheduling embedded directly into the Contact and Sauna Design pages. Free, fully owned, and already integrated with Google Workspace.
5
DNS Cutover & Launch
Point Cloudflare DNS to the new server with a 48-hour parallel-run window, a full QA pass, and only then decommission Shopify.
Front Two — Search & Authority Begins With What Google Actually Sees

A Real Craft, Presented Like a Default Template.

Nothing about this site looks broken. It looks generic — and for a custom, five-figure luxury build, generic is its own kind of problem. The photography of finished work is genuinely strong. The page shells around it — navigation, layout, template styling — still read as an out-of-the-box Shopify theme rather than a brand that’s been building custom saunas on Long Island for years.

Current Presentation

Locked into a template that wasn’t built for this business

  • Page layouts follow Shopify’s default e-commerce structure — built for browsing a catalog, not walking a visitor through a custom build.
  • Navigation and page hierarchy don’t clearly separate “see finished work,” “understand the process,” and “start a project” into a guided path.
  • Several genuinely useful pages — the FAQ, the Site Prep Checklist, the Contractor Network — exist but sit outside the main menu, effectively invisible to a first-time visitor.
Current HomepageInsert current full-page or above-the-fold screenshot
Once Migrated

A structure that actually matches how a custom build is sold

  • Full navigation exposed — every page that already exists gets surfaced, not buried, once it’s no longer constrained by a theme built for something else.
  • A homepage that leads with the strongest available proof — real completed builds, real reviews, a clear next step — instead of a generic storefront layout.
  • Copy across every page follows one simple discipline: the first seven words carry the keyword and the point, because that’s what Google and AI overviews actually show before truncating.

Organic Search Health — Current State

Why Zero Rankings Happens

Shopify’s architecture limits custom meta structures. Without a dedicated content strategy — no blog, no keyword-targeted landing pages, no structured local citations — there’s nothing beyond basic page names for Google to actually index. The domain is also young with very few authoritative links pointing to it.

The Foundation This Unlocks

Migrating off Shopify enables full control of title tags, meta descriptions, schema markup (LocalBusiness, Review), sitemaps, and clean URL structures — the foundational layer Shopify constrains, and the layer every keyword and backlink strategy in this report depends on.

What’s Ahead in This Section

The next two pages walk through exactly what’s currently linking to the site — the good and the questionable — and then the specific keyword and content plan to go from zero to something that actually compounds.

From Zero Rankings to Compounding Search Traffic.

1
Keyword Architecture & On-Page Foundations
Target terms like “custom sauna Long Island,” “indoor sauna builder NY,” and “Harvia sauna installation New York.” Every existing page gets proper heading structure, metadata, and schema — work that is genuinely difficult inside Shopify and straightforward once migrated.
2
Content Engine — The “First Seven Words” Rule
Every page title, meta description, blog post, and social caption leads with the primary keyword in its first seven words, because that’s the window before Google and AI overviews truncate. Blog content targets the actual questions people ask before hiring a sauna builder, which builds long-tail search reach beyond Long Island.
3
Backlink Building on Top of What Already Works
The North American Sauna Society and Sauna From Finland links are strong anchors already in place. Build outward from them — HARO pitches, local press, and legitimate contractor and industry directory listings — rather than starting a link profile from nothing.
Local Search & Google Business Profile

The Fastest Wins Live in Local Search.

Google Business Profile Domination

The Google Business Profile isn’t fully built out. This is one of the fastest, cheapest wins available: photos of every completed Long Island build, the Q&A section populated proactively, service area pins covering the actual coverage zone, and direct links out to Instagram and Facebook. Embed the Google Map directly on the Contact page so it’s never a separate click away.

The Nick Talio Advantage

Most sauna dealers are anonymous storefronts. East Coast Saunas already isn’t — Nick personally documents real builds on camera. That’s exactly the kind of experience-and-expertise signal search engines increasingly weight in local rankings. Naming him consistently across citations, reviews, and content — “built by Nick Talio,” years of experience, real project photos with his own hands in frame — turns an existing habit into a deliberate trust signal instead of a happy accident.

Instagram, Facebook & Ad Creative — $500/mo Retainer

Strong Raw Assets. Weak Presentation. No Ad System Yet.

What’s Working
  • Nick Talio (@nicktalio) actively documents builds via Instagram Reels — high-quality, authentic footage that resonates with luxury homeowners.
  • @eastcoastsaunas is live and posting completed project photos with location tags (Old Westbury, Nesconset, and more).
  • The Facebook page has an established, active following in Old Westbury, NY.
  • The video assets are genuinely excellent — the existing montage ad uses real, professional footage of real builds. Strong social proof, already shot.
What Needs to Change
  • The Facebook hero image shows raw wood planks — not a finished premium sauna. That’s the wrong first impression for a $20K+ luxury build.
  • The profile logo contains text that’s unreadable at small avatar sizes on mobile feeds.
  • No Instagram Story Highlights organized by category — Our Builds, Reviews, FAQ, Prep Guides.
  • No pinned posts anchoring the best builds, an intro, or review proof.
  • No YouTube channel — the second-largest search engine globally is completely untapped.

Ad Creative Strategy
1
Splice the Master Montage
Break the existing video into individual variants — by wood type, by room type, indoor vs. outdoor — and A/B test all of them simultaneously instead of running one long clip.
2
Repurpose to YouTube Shorts
A social feed post has roughly a 48-hour lifespan. The same clip as a YouTube Short compounds for months and can surface directly in Google search and AI overviews.
3
Manage Frequency at $100+/day
At higher spend the same ad hits the same audience too often. Rotate creative every 7–10 days and broaden targeting to keep frequency low and click-through rate high.
The “Clipper” Viral Model

Incentivize creators to repost Nick’s build footage as short clips on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Reels — performance-based, at $200 per 100K views or an 8% commission on any materials order generated through their affiliate link. Every build becomes dozens of organic touchpoints across platforms with zero upfront media spend, and every clipper is only paid when it actually works — which means their incentive is perfectly aligned with East Coast Saunas’ own.

The “Lumpy Mail” Value Leader Strategy

Stop Selling the Plans. Use Them to Land the Full Project.

Current Problem — Double Friction

The “Custom Sauna Building Plans” ($149.99) product exists on Shopify but is set to Unavailable. The separate “Sauna Stool” PDF guide is only unlocked after booking a live 15-minute Zoom call. Both are asking cold, high-intent traffic to commit before they’re ready — and most of them simply leave instead.

Why Physical Mail Wins

A professionally printed booklet mailed to the prospect’s home puts the brand physically inside their house. It sits on the coffee table. It gets picked up again. No digital ad achieves that kind of permanence.

The 5-Step “Lumpy Mail” Funnel
1
Video Ad — “Normally $149. Yours Free.”
A Facebook/Instagram video shows a real build in progress. The CTA offers the $149 plans free while the promotion runs, driving clicks to a dedicated landing page.
2
A Low-Friction Form — Name, Email, Phone, Address
The mailing address is collected under the guise of physical delivery, which quietly unlocks direct mail to a warm, opted-in prospect who has already self-identified as a sauna buyer.
3
Instant PDF + a Thank-You Page With Video
The digital PDF delivers immediately via Klaviyo. The redirect lands on a custom thank-you page featuring the build montage video, building excitement while it’s warm.
4
The Physical Booklet Arrives (3–5 Days)
A premium printed planning booklet with a handwritten note from Nick lands in their mailbox. The brand now lives in their home for weeks or months.
5
A Warm Follow-Up Call
“Hey Marc, it’s Nick from East Coast Saunas — did your book arrive? What did you think of the framing section?” Conversational, no pressure, and warm enough that most prospects book the full design call on the spot.
Landing Page Gaps, Navigation Fixes & Content Upgrades

The Gallery Is Great. The Funnel Behind It Is Broken.

The Conversion Gap — Long Island Custom Saunas Page

The /pages/long-island-custom-saunas page showcases 15+ excellent completed builds across Nesconset, Old Westbury, Jericho, and East Hills — genuinely strong proof. But the only call to action sits at the very bottom of the page, a single “Book Your Free Design Call” link. On mobile, a visitor scrolls past all 15 builds before ever seeing a way to act.

  • No inline CTAs between build cards
  • No mid-page “Download the Site Prep Guide” hook
  • No sticky banner or floating contact option
“Insert a call to action after every fourth build card: ‘Confused about electrical? Download our Harvia rough-in guide free.’ Low friction, high-intent capture, right where interest is already peaking.”
Fix · Long Island Gallery Page
Content Upgrade Priorities
1
A Visual Site Prep Checklist
The /pages/site-prep-requirements page is technically excellent but 100% text. Replace it with clean diagrams showing bench blocking heights, vent positions, and floor skirting.
2
Navigation Menu Expansion
Add dedicated links for FAQ, Site Prep Checklist, Custom Gallery, and Contractor Network. These pages already exist — they just need to be surfaced in the main menu.
3
The “First Seven Words” Rule, Everywhere
Every page title, meta description, blog post, and social caption leads with the primary keyword in its first seven words.
4
Rebuild the Thank-You Page
A personalized greeting, the build montage video embedded, and a clear next step — matching the luxury positioning the rest of the brand is aiming for.

Where This Report Stops, On Purpose

This Was the Front Door. The Rest of the House Is Next.

Everything in this report lives on the digital storefront: the platform, the search visibility, the backlinks, the social presence, and the lead-capture funnel. That’s the part of the business a stranger sees before they’ve ever spoken to anyone. It deliberately stops at exactly that point — the moment a lead has actually raised their hand.

What happens after that — how a quote actually gets built, how the contractor network gets coordinated, how a job gets scheduled, tracked, and delivered, and where the day-to-day friction really lives — is a different question entirely, and one this document was never trying to answer. It deserves its own dedicated, holistic assessment.

What’s Coming in That Assessment

A separate Business Operations & Workflow Assessment, built once we’ve had time to properly learn how East Coast Saunas actually runs day to day. Early items already on the radar for that document, previewed here without being priced or scoped yet:

  • A QuickBooks-connected business dashboard — revenue, quotes, and job status in one place instead of scattered across tools.
  • An interactive 3D sauna design tool — letting a prospect configure size, wood, and layout before ever picking up the phone.
  • Contractor network coordination — how jobs get assigned, scheduled, and tracked from quote to install.
  • Quoting & CAD documentation tools — reducing the manual work behind every custom estimate.
  • A client project portal — one place for a customer to see where their build actually stands.
  • Fractional leadership — ongoing CTO/CMO-level oversight once the growth retainer is running and there’s a system worth managing.
“This report answers ‘how do we get found and get the lead.’ The next one answers ‘how does that lead actually become a finished sauna, on time and on budget.’ Two different questions, two different documents, one connected plan.”
The Diagnosis Is Written. Here’s How We Fill It.

Less Platforms. More Control.
More Revenue.

Immediate Action Sequence
  1. Approve the WordPress Migration

$5,000 one-time. Full 1-for-1 rebuild of every existing page. Google Calendar replaces Calendly. Estimated turnaround: 2–3 weeks.

  2. Transfer the Domain to Cloudflare

Registrar, CDN, and DNS consolidated into one dashboard. Retires Tucows. Typically takes 5–7 days to complete.

  3. Launch the SEO & Ads Retainer

The $500/mo SEO program begins the moment the new site is live. Ad management activates once the landing pages carry real conversion paths.

  4. Activate the “Lumpy Mail” Lead System

Re-enable the $149 plans as a free lead magnet, and build the five-step funnel — ad, form, PDF, physical mail, warm call.

  5. Schedule the Operations Assessment

Once the website foundation is running, we begin the holistic Business Operations & Workflow Assessment — the second document, covering everything this one deliberately left out.

What You Get From Day One
  • Full website ownership — no Shopify lock-in
  • One platform for domain, CDN, and registrar
  • Google Calendar scheduling at $0/mo
  • An SEO foundation built to compound, not just exist
  • A lead magnet funnel that turns cold traffic warm
  • One partner handling every piece of it
