Shared course help
First the folder. Then the app.
You already have the practice files. Read this guide in your browser, try the online activities, and install VS Code when you are ready to explore the real editor.
Internet is needed for the official download. Microsoft supplies the current installer for your computer; this kit does not include an installer.
1. Keep your folder somewhere easy.
Extract or unzip the download, then keep the whole proscris-academy-starter folder together. Documents is a useful place if you do not already have a place for learning files.
Moving the whole folder keeps these local links working. You do not need to open your other personal files or business folders for this course.
2. Choose the help for your computer.
The official download page offers the supported builds. Follow Microsoft's current directions for your system. Use these guides if you would like a little more help.
Windows
Open the official download page and choose the Windows download that fits your computer. Open the downloaded installer and follow its setup screens. If you are using a managed work or school computer, ask its administrator if installation is restricted.
Mac
Use the official Mac download and follow Microsoft's instructions for opening the download and placing Visual Studio Code in Applications. The official page explains the available Mac builds.
Linux
Use the package and installation method that matches your distribution. Microsoft's guide explains the supported choices; you do not need to copy a terminal command from this starter kit.
Visual Studio Code is the editor used in this course. It is a different product from Visual Studio.
3. Open the starter folder in VS Code.
Once VS Code is installed, open the app. Use its File > Open Folder action and choose the whole extracted proscris-academy-starter folder. If your version presents a different Open dialog, choose that same starter folder there.
You will see shared and courses together in the file list. Expand courses, then vs-code-for-beginners, and select notes.md or about-me.md to read it. You can learn the editor without setting up an AI service first; an AI extension or account is a separate later choice.

You have enough to begin.
Try one page, one file or one lesson. The written examples give you a starting point, and you can change them later.
