Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to ensuring an inclusive and accessible experience for every visitor to our website, in compliance with the latest ADA and WCAG 2.2 standards.
Our Commitment
Ruby Hill Farm is committed to ensuring that our website — rubyhillfarm.com — is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology, ability, or circumstance. We believe that every person, including those with disabilities, deserves equal access to information about our farm, our products, our events, and the work of Madi's Way.
We have invested resources into improving the accessibility and usability of our website, adhering to the absolute latest web guidelines and standards. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we view it as an integral part of our values as a community-focused farm and organization. We continuously audit our digital presence to identify and remediate access barriers.
Standards & Conformance Status
Our goal is to strictly conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 Level AA defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines helps make the web more accessible to users who are blind or have low vision, deaf or hard of hearing, have limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, or learning and cognitive disabilities.
Our digital accessibility efforts are guided by the following standards and references:
- WCAG 2.2 Level AA — The latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (W3C)
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III — Public Accommodations
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended
- WAI-ARIA 1.2 — Accessible Rich Internet Applications specification
- New York State Human Rights Law — which prohibits disability discrimination
Note: We are aware of the emerging WCAG 3.0 working drafts. We will transition our compliance targets to WCAG 3.0 once it is finalized and adopted as an enforceable standard by the DOJ and W3C.
Measures We Have Taken
Ruby Hill Farm takes the following proactive measures to ensure accessibility of our website:
- (WCAG 2.2 Standard) Focus Not Obscured (Minimum 2.4.11): Ensured focused interactive elements are never entirely hidden by sticky headers or footers.
- (WCAG 2.2 Standard) Target Size (Minimum 2.5.8): Designed all interactive touch targets (links, buttons, form controls) to be a minimum of 24x24 CSS pixels, ensuring they are easily selectable for users with motor impairments.
- (WCAG 2.2 Standard) Redundant Entry (3.3.7): Eliminated redundant data entry in forms (such as billing vs. shipping inputs) to minimize cognitive load.
- (WCAG 2.2 Standard) Accessible Authentication (3.3.8): Ensured login flows do not require cognitive tests (e.g., memorization or solving complex puzzles) and fully support password managers.
- (WCAG 2.2 Standard) Dragging Movements (2.5.7): Ensured that any functionality requiring a dragging motion can also be achieved with a simple pointer click.
- Included a visible skip navigation link to allow keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation and reach the main content directly.
- Applied semantic HTML5 elements throughout the site (e.g.,
<main>,<nav>,<header>,<footer>,<article>,<section>) to convey meaning and structure to assistive technologies. - Ensured all meaningful images include descriptive alt text attributes; decorative images use empty alt attributes (
alt="") so screen readers ignore them. - Maintained a minimum color contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
- Ensured the site layout is responsive and reflows on all viewport sizes without loss of content or functionality, supporting users who zoom up to 400%.
- Provided visible focus indicators on all interactive elements to support keyboard navigation.
- Implemented a logical reading order and heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) to facilitate navigation by screen reader users.
- Telephone numbers are formatted as clickable tel: links to support users on mobile devices and those using assistive calling technologies.
- Respected the
prefers-reduced-motionCSS media query to disable animations and transitions for users who have requested reduced motion in their operating system settings.
Known Limitations
Despite our best and continuous efforts, some areas of our website may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA due to technological constraints. We are aware of the following known limitations and are actively working to address them:
- Legacy images: Some older images in our gallery sections may lack sufficiently descriptive alt text. We are conducting a rolling content audit and updating all historical image descriptions.
- PDF documents: Some legacy downloadable documents linked from our site may not be fully accessible natively. We are committed to providing accessible alternatives upon request.
- Video content: Older videos embedded on or linked from our website may not include closed captions or audio descriptions. We will add captions and transcripts to video content as resources allow.
We are committed to resolving these limitations. Our accessibility improvements are ongoing and are prioritized by impact on users.
Assistive Technologies Supported
Our website has been designed and tested to support compatibility with the following assistive technologies and browser combinations. We aim to ensure a comparable experience across all of these environments:
- NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) with Mozilla Firefox on Windows
- JAWS (Job Access With Speech) with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows
- VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS (iPhone/iPad)
- TalkBack with Chrome on Android devices
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking (voice control software) with Chrome on Windows
- Windows High Contrast Mode with Microsoft Edge
- Keyboard-only navigation across all modern browsers
- Browser zoom up to 400% without loss of content or functionality
Third-Party Content
Our website may include content, widgets, and integrations provided by third-party service providers. While we strive to select vendors that prioritize accessibility, Ruby Hill Farm does not control or maintain the underlying source code of these third-party services and cannot guarantee their strict conformance to WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines.
Known third-party integrations include:
- EmbedSocial — Instagram feed embedding service
- EventBrite — Event ticketing and registration platform
- Google Maps — Mapping and location services
- Instagram — Social media content embeds
Remediation of third-party software code is an "undue burden" under the ADA as it is legally and technically outside of our direct control. If you encounter an accessibility barrier related to a third-party plugin or widget on our website, please contact us immediately. We will work to provide you with the information, functionality, or service through an accessible alternative method (such as processing an event ticket over the phone).
